When you meet someone new online, there’s a rush of excitement that tends to blot out the fine details. In the flurry of late night phone calls, flirty texts and first dates that follow, it’s easy to overlook small signs of impending doom or some major Dating Red Flags. Paying attention to those little dating red flags can save you from heartache, embarrassment or worse.
When you’re dating online, watch for these red flags and think twice about the person you’re getting involved with:
- Beware of snooty dates. Pay attention to how your date interacts with your server when you go out to dinner. Beware of a date that is nice to you but rude or arrogant with the wait staff. The way your date treats people he is not trying to impress is a truer indication of his or her personality than the charming facade your date is putting on for you.
- Beware of impolite dates. If you hold the door for your date and she fails to thank you, you could be dealing with a little princess who thinks she deserves to have the world handed to her on a silver platter. Likewise, if you have him over for dinner and he doesn’t thank you, he may expect women to wait on him. Polite people use “please” and “thank you” to recognize and show appreciation for something someone does for them. Beware of dates that take you for granted unless you enjoy playing the role of sugar daddy or maid.
- Beware of self-centered dates. Dating should be a two-way street where you get as much as you give. Beware of dates that monopolize the conversation or always want to pick the movie or restaurant. Living only by someone else’s terms is a fast road to dissatisfaction.
