Brooklyn Botanic Garden

So your dating profile was a success and you’re headed off on your second date. Congratulations!

There’s a beautiful garden in Kings County in NYC. It’s the Brooklyn Botanic Garden. A city oasis, the garden is over 100 years old. There are thousands of plants over 52 acres.

The spring draws large crowds when over 70 cherry trees put on a show. But, there’s space to roam. Check out the Japanese Hill and Pond Garden. And don’t miss the Shakespeare Garden full of plants mentioned in his famous works.

If you’re hungry, you can either grab a bite in the Yellow Magnolia Cafe or bring along your picnic essentials to dine alfresco.

Jane’s Carousel in Brooklyn Bridge Park

Brooklyn Bridge Park is on the waterfront and features lush gardens and city views. It’s a revitalized area in contrast to its previous dilapidated industrial space. Take your date via public transportation because parking is limited.

Enjoy a ride on Jane’s Carousel near the Empire Fulton Ferry section of the park. The Philadelphia Toboggan Company built the enchanting carousel in 1922. It was later restored and gifted to the park by Jane and David Walentas.

From September to May the Carousel is open Thursday to Sunday.

Gallow Green

If an intimate drink is on order, try Gallow Green in Chelsea. This is a rooftop bar located at the McKittrick Hotel. The bar has a great view of the West Side.

The setting is alluring and romantic. The tables and chairs are weathered wood. Trellises of verdant vines and flowers weave their way around the tables in a fit of whimsy.

There’s also live music and good food.

PDT Cocktail Lounge

PDT means Please Don’t Tell. But the Old Fashioneds and deep-fried franks are worth talking about. Find this little place hidden in Crif Dogs in the East Village at 113 St. Marks Place.

Look for the vintage phone booth in the restaurant. Walk through it into the low-lit bar inside. And although it’s “hidden,” lots of people now know about it. Impress your date with a reservation at this little speakeasy.

The Old City Hall Subway Station

In 1945, they closed the old City Hall subway station. A subway station doesn’t evoke images of a romantic date, but it’s a treasure you don’t want to miss. There are gorgeous skylights with intricate metal work.

The vaulted ceilings are tiled. Brass chandeliers hang from the ceiling.

The tour costs $50 a piece, and tickets sell out fast, but there’s a catch. You’ll both need a museum membership ($75 for two).

There’s another way if you and your date are the adventurous types. Stay on the downtown 6 after it makes the last stop at the Brooklyn Bridge. Be discreet. Ride the train back uptown via the old station.

Mount Loretto Walking Trails

Is your date outdoorsy? Do you love walking? Head out to the Mount Loretto trails on Staten Island. A long walk is almost always romantic.

There are several hiking trails that take you to the coastline. You’ll see grasslands and wetlands as you discover all types of birds.

You’ll find the walking trails at 20 Kenny Road on Staten Island.

Nitehawk Cinema

Does your date love movies? Looking for retro and indie releases? Nitehawk Cinema is a fun dine-in theater that serves alcohol.

Find it at 136 Metropolitan Ave in Brooklyn.

Impress your date with the vintage vibe that’s fun and casual. They even offer themed showings that feature food special to the movie. The portions are generous and the food is good.

Your food comes straight to your seats! The theaters are small, so buy advance tickets and arrive early.

Le Boudoir

This underground cocktail bar is entered through a hidden door by a bookcase. It’s inside Chez Moi. You’ll feel like you’ve entered Marie Antoinette’s rooms at Versailles.

You’ll love the cocktails as you relax in your cozy, red-velvet booth. If you’re there on a Monday, you’ll enjoy live music.

Enjoy a few appetizers like crispy frogs legs and the smoked salmon plate. Or try the charcuterie and cheese. They even offer garlic and parmesan french fries.

Find this fun spot in Brooklyn at 135 Atlantic Ave.

Carnegie Hall

Try something a little unexpected with a concert at Carnegie Hall. Some of the world’s finest artists play there. The hall is an architectural delight built in 1891.

Booker T. Washington spoke at the hall in 1896 with President Grover Cleveland. Luciano Pavarotti sang there in 1973. Your date will love this unusual choice.

You can buy tickets right up to start time if you’re more comfortable checking with your date first.

Tokyo Record Bar

Discover your date’s taste in music while having a blast designing your own playlist. Make reservations for one of the two seatings Monday through Wednesday. There are three seatings Thursday through Saturday.

The food is served family style. If you have dietary restrictions let them know ahead. Gluten-free isn’t one of the options. But if you’re vegan, vegetarian, or pescatarian, you’re in luck.

The evening only lasts about an hour and a half. But you’ll enjoy the cool retro vibe and the music and food-pairing experience.
