Online Dating: How to Make The First Phone Call- Online dating is a lot different from offline dating. When you get someone’s number in the offline dating world you usually have a short chat with someone you’re interested in and then exchange numbers – easy as that. However, with online dating there is a lot more hesitation to move onto the next level, which is the phone call.
If you’re contemplating calling someone you found on an online dating service, then chances are you’ve been communicating through email for a while. However, if you haven’t been communicating on that level for at least a week, then it’s not the right time to ask for their number because you don’t know if the chemistry is there yet.
If your communication through email and online chats has been easy and natural, then it’s safe to say that you have good chemistry together. However, you may be wondering if it’s the right time to actually make the first phone call or how to exactly ask to call your online dating interest. You don’t want to freak the other person out and you certainly don’t want to ruin something that has been going well so far. So how to you go about making that first phone call to your online dating interest?
If you’ve found your online dating communication to be easy, then asking for the number should be easy as well. The next time you’re having an online messaging session or email, make sure to be light-hearted and say something like, “Hey, you know we’ve been messaging each other like crazy over the last week and my fingers are getting tired. How about we talk on the phone? Give me a number and a good time to reach you and we’ll talk”. The response will most likely be a positive one.
Now, when should you call? Well, if you’re having an online chat then you’re already talking. If you get a number during that time you should go ahead and call. However, if you’ve been communication through email or your online dating service’s message system then you should adhere to the times your interest is available. In this case, don’t call the other person right away. Wait until the next available time and date. That way, you don’t seem overly vehement and of course at this stage in the dating process you still need to seem a little mysterious.
Also, make sure you prepare yourself. Print out the other person’s profile in advance, before you call, and reacquaint yourself with it. Highlight their interests, likes, dislikes and so on. It will also help you to picture what they look like if they’ve got a great dating photo.
The fact of the matter is that, if you’ve had successful online rapport with your online dating interest, then you should be able to get along just fine on the phone. Don’t be forceful, don’t be too quick to act and ask for the phone number in a natural, conversational way.
